The Human Mobility Ecosystem works across multiple areas to respond to the complex realities of migration and displacement. Our approach combines knowledge generation, capacity building, humanitarian support, and policy influence.
Programmatic Pillars
1. Academic and Training Excellence
Continue to develop interdisciplinary academic programs integrating human mobility, conflict transformation and climate and social justice, such as the “International Migration and its Links to Peace, Security and Sustainable Development” course, the “Gender and Human Mobility: Transnational and Intersectional Perspectives” course, and the graduate certificate track on “Human Mobility, Conflict, and Climate Change.”
Host training workshops for practitioners, local leaders, and policymakers to advance innovative approaches to human mobility.
2. Humanitarian and Protection Initiatives
Provide direct support for asylum seekers and displaced populations, ensuring access to essential services, psychological support, language training, and legal assistance.
Promote community-led integration programs to foster social cohesion.
3. Research and Advocacy
Conduct empirical, participatory, and action-oriented research on conflict, violence, and climate change-related human mobility.
Publish accessible reports and briefs, such as those produced by the UPEACE initiative Move-LAM, the Cuadernos del Proceso de Quito, and UPEACE faculty to inform regional and international policymaking on critical debates and actions.
4. National, Regional and International Impact
Continue to act as a bridge between local and national actors and international platforms, ensuring grassroots perspectives shape global and regional agendas. For example, UPEACE’s active engagement in international platforms, such as its recent contributions to the Proceso de Quito, contribute to informing and shaping human mobility policies in the Latin American and Caribbean Region.
Advocate for policy frameworks grounded in equity, sustainability, and resilience.
